On December 2, 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of the people’s Republic of China Xi Jinping launched the operation of the “Sila SIbiri” gas pipeline in a grand ceremony. The opening ceremony was broadcasted live on a teleconference by the TV channel “Russia 24”.

JSC “Turbokholod” supplied 8 ADKG-20 turboexpander units designed for low-temperature separation of raw materials for the development of the Chayandinsky field. In future, the company will supply 12 more machines of the ADKG-10 series with a skid of shut-off valves for the gas collection and treatment system at the Kovyktinskoye field in the Irkutsk region.

The designed capacity of the “Sila Sibiri” pipeline is 38 billion cubic meters. It is planned to switch to this mode of operation by 2025, which will require increasing the raw material base. For now, the pipeline will transport gas produced at Chayanda in Yakutia, and from 2022, products from Kovykta will also be transported.

China is the main consumer of gas transported via the “Sila Sibiri” pipeline. In 2018, the country consumed 283 billion cubic meters of the blue fuel, while its import needs were 121.3 billion cubic meters. According to experts of the International Energy Agency, in the period up to 2040, China will increase the world gas trade market by 30%.

In addition to the launch of the “Sila Sibiri”, “Gazprom” is working on options for the construction of other export pipelines that will pass through the territory of the Altai Republic and Mongolia.
